Daniel Constantine Marino Jr., former Miami Dolphins Quarterback, cheated on his wife of 28 years, Claire, with Donna Savattere and fathered a love child in 2005. Donna was paid millions to keep it a secret and to care for their daughter, although the total sum is unclear.
“They had an affair, and she had a baby,” a source told The New York Post. “Everything was on the down-low and secretive.”
Their 7-year-old daughter, Chloe, was born in June 2005, and is currently being raised by Donna and her husband.
The 51-year-old confirmed the affair on Jan. 30, saying in a statement:
“This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then.” said the Miami Dolphins legend in a statement, “We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved.”
Donna was a production assistant at CBS Sports when she got pregnant. Marino has worked as an analyst for CBS Sports since 2003 and will be part of this Sunday’s Super Bowl telecast. He carried on an affair with then 35-year-old Savattere in 2005, just a few months before Marino was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
After giving birth to their child, 44-year-old Donna moved briefly to Texas as part of her agreement with Marino. However, she has since returned to New York on a part-time basis and currently has residences in both the Upper West Side and the Hamptons, according to Radar Online.
Donna Savattere was married to a state trooper in New Jersey before beginning her affair with Marino, according to the Post.
Since the affair, his mistress married Nahill Younis in 2009 and have a son together. The couple met in the Bahamas, and their wedding was held at their Hamptons home and an announcement made on the Hamptons website saying:
“Donna was already a mother when Nahill met her, and Donna’s daughter quickly became an important part of his life.”
The secret came out because 43-year-old Savattere (b. July 7th, 1969) wanted to change her daughter’s last name to her current husband’s name, therefore the news was revealed of who her real father was.
Marino has reportedly been in touch with his 7-year-old illegitimate daughter, and Donna’s closest friends apparently knew that Dan was the father of her daughter.
Marino is still married to his wife, Claire Marino. They have been married since 1985 and together they have four sons: Daniel, 26, Michael, 24, Joseph, 23, Alexandra, 20, and adopted two more children form China, Lia, 17, and Niki, 16.
“My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years and have six children together,” said Marino on Wednesday, adding, “And we continue to be a strong and loving family.”
