Latin America lost a great man, the world of sports and soccer lost a gifted goalkeeper, but Sandra Sierra Calero lost her soul mate, her beloved husband and father of her children, Colombian goalkeeper Miguel Calero passed away at the age of 41.
The great Miguel Angel Calero Rodriguez was born in Ginebra, Colombia on April 14, 1971, he began his professional career when he was 15 with Deportivo Cali where he stayed until 1997, in between those years he was transferred as a loan to Sporting of Cartagena. Then in 1998 he signed with Atletico Nacional in Medellin and stayed there until 2000 when he moved to Mexico where he made his debut on July 30, 2000 with Pachuca, where they defeated Toluca 3-4.
Calero was named Captain in 2002, turning down millionaire contract by Tigres and Monterrey, Miguel was a very respected, humble and dear player that all Mexico adored.
On 2007 suffered a thrombosis in his left shoulder that kept him sidelined for nearly six months. However, he recovered and joined his team during the 2008 season, he announced he would be retire the following year, as time went on Calero reconsidered his retirement and decided to postpone it.
Calero’s last match was on October 23rd, 2011, played 495 matches with Pachuca and was considered one of the best goalkeepers in Mexican soccer in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.
On November 25th, 2012 he suffered from a cerebral thrombosis and was taken to Médica Sur in Tlalpan, he showed sign of recovery of the days that follow, sadly he was on life support after he was declared brain dead after a second thrombosis on December 3rd. Miguel Calero died from a heart attack on Tuesday December 4th, 2011 he was 41. His rest will be cremated, some of his ashes will remained in Mexico at the home he lived with his wife Sandra and their and and the rest will go to Colombia
Miguel was married to his lovely wife Sandra Sierra or Sandra Sierra Calero, who was in her living room on the night of November 25 talking with her husband when he suddenly began to feel bad, a little dizzy and a sharp pain in his head.Sandra became concerned and made an emergency call and within minutes he was airlifted to a hospital in Mexico City.
Sandra Calero and his beloved husband are the proud parents of two sons, 20-year-old Miguel Angel and 14-year-old Juan Jose who like his father is a soccer player. Sandra got married in 1991 in Colombia, who met him while he was playing in Deportivo Cali.
