The 26-year-old Ronda Rousey who is a mixed martial artist and the current UFC Women’s Champion has had many trainers but this time she apparently had something more than training with Henry Akins, Rousey said that they know each other since they were kids.
But what do we know about the Jiu Jitsu trainer Henry Akins?
Henry Akins, is better known by his nickname “Jiu Jitsu Super Computer” and is because of been an elite of Martial Arts instructors.
Akins said on an interview: “I was always involved in martial arts, but I guess it was Kung Fu Theater which got me interested at an Early Age.”
Akins is one of 3 American to be promoted to black belt, he started off in Tae Kwon Do, that set him in direction of Jiu Jitsu, while all of this friends were state champions.
Henry Akins began training Jiu Jitsu training in 1995 at the Rickson Gracie Academy located on Pico blvd, West LA.
For Akins going to Rickson’s Academy was pretty hard because no one was able to give him information of the place where Rickson trained, they said: “Rickson, we don’t know anyone named Rickson,” but fortunately Akins aunt had a personal trainer who trained at Rickson’s. When Henry started at the academy he became the secretary and spent 70 hours a week studding and participating in all of the classes.
In 1997 Akins’ main Instructor was Luis Heredia, during those years Akins had the opportunity of training Rickson and help prepared for his fight in Japan. During the 2000 the academy moved to Wilshire blvd in West LA.
In February 2004 Henry Akins was presented by Rickson Gracie with a black-belt.
